The Elk Came Back

Last September we had a small herd of elk visit our property. I was not able to view the elk in person, but I had captured them on our cameras. This year I was lucky to see elk in person.

As my wife and I arrived at the cabin we saw a young bull standing at the end of our driveway. He moved up towards are brother-in-law’s camp as we unloaded our truck. We spent a good 30 minute watching him graze in our neighborhood before he moved into the woods.

The next day we heard bugling down the valley so we got in the truck to investigate. Less than a half mile away we came across a herd of elk, numbering about 12 elk in total. There were two bulls with the herd and they put on a bit of a show for us. It was very exciting to see the elk in person and so close to our cabin.

We saw this young bull standing near our driveway.
The young bull enjoys some of the grass at my brother-in-law’s camp.
We were treated to a bit of sparring with these two bulls.
