June Update

Just wanted to give a quick update of things going on at the cabin. In my last post I mentioned building a picnic table from some table legs given to me from my parents. My parents also gave us some outdoor furniture. Like the picnic table, this outdoor furniture has been around for a while as I remember them from my youth. Being a bit aged, the furniture need some attention before we could use it. This meant removing years, and multiple layers, of old, flaking paint. I found the best way to do this was with a small sandblaster. Using the sandblaster I was able to make short work of removing the old paint. I have repainted all of the pieces but one of the chairs, which I hope to finish in the next week or two.

Still need to paint a chair before the entire set is complete.

With all of the rain, and at times warm temperatures, the garden is coming along nicely. The corn is on schedule, being about knee high, with the 4th of July only 10 days away. If all goes as planned, we will be having a big corn roast towards the end of August.

All of the rain has been keeping the garden well watered.

Finally, a picture of an animal, but not from the Critter Cam. I recently put out a hummingbird feeder. We already have guests visiting it on a regular basis. However, there does seem to be one hummingbird that is quite territorial. He sits above the feeder most of the time and will chase away any other hummingbirds that try to visit.

This little guy has claimed the feeder as his own.

Two More Projects Finished

Recently I completed two more projects at the property. The first was the building of a picnic table. My parents had the metal legs left over from a picnic table that we used when I was little. After sanding, scraping, and a fresh coat of paint, all I needed to do was add the treated lumber for seats and a table top. This picnic table will be very useful when we cook over the open fire or make mountain pies.

This table will be greatly appreciated when we cook and hang out by the fire.

The second project I completed were the steps to the outhouse. I still need to stain the board and batten siding, but with that completed and the steps finished, the outside of the outhouse will be finished. I still need to do some work on the inside, but hopefully that will be done by fall.

Steps going up to the outhouse should make it more easily accessible.
