I Love This Time Of Year

Any time of year at camp is a good time, but I really enjoy the late spring/early summer. The temperatures are comfortable and everything is vibrant in many different shades of green. Unfortunately for the past month it has seemed to rain every weekend at our property, which limits what all you can do outside.

All the rain we have been having has been beneficial to the newly planted grass.

One thing I was able to get completed this past weekend was the putting in of our garden. I started about 3 weeks ago by putting in treated, 4×4 posts. The following week I installed metal fence posts and this past weekend I put up the deer fence and planted the garden. We are growing potatoes, cantaloupe and corn: everything that I don’t have room to grow in my garden at home.

I hope the deer fence keeps the deer out of the corn.

Another project I completed was the installation of “steps” to the front porch. I put in a small landing instead of a single step. This allows for easy entry to the porch from the front or the side of the cabin.

Completion of another project.

On another note, I caught this guy on the Critter Cam. Seems he was wandering around the back of the property just a little after sunset. I guess I’ll need to be a bit more attentive when I am sitting out by the fire.

He seems to be a big boy.

Less Mud and a New Addition on the Critter Cam

As you can see from this picture, we have stone on our road and it isn’t nearly as muddy as it was a month ago. Over 48 tons of rock were placed on the road but it didn’t quite make it to our cabin. However, it is a great improvement over what we had to deal with before. Perhaps next year I will get the rest of the road stoned up to our cabin.

A bit rocky, but the ruts are gone.

It has been a while since I shared photos from the critter cam. Typically we get deer on the cam: lots and lots of deer. Last year we captured a coyote on the camera. This past month we caught another critter on the camera: a turkey. Unfortunately with spring gobbler hunting season now underway, I am not sure we’ll be catching this bird on the camera again anytime soon.

Someone should tell this bird that it is hunting season.

It was last April (2017) that we became the owners of this little piece of property in God’s Country. If you look at my very first blog entry you will see aerial footage that I took from my drone of the property back then. One year later, things look a bit different. I will try to post the entire aerial footage I took last weekend once I get a chance to review and edit it, but until then, here is a screen shot from the video.
